In Pt II, a deft application of Rakau quietly shifts the balance towards soft apricot and ripe pear. Critics have proposed that the series of work represents nothing at all. Others maintain that it depicts refreshment in its purest abstract form. Both camps tend to become remarkably agreeable after a second glass. Like great experiments in non-objective composition, the Pieces series asks drinkers to abandon the comforting illusion that every beautiful thing must resemble something else. Here, color has become aroma, geometry has become flavor, and the only discernible perspective is the angle at which the glass is tilted. Conservation remains impossible.
